BIO

James is a photographer, photojournalist, cinematographer, and multimedia producer based on Vancouver Island.

He first picked up a camera in 2004 following high school, as he traveled and worked his way around Europe. While completing university and working more and more behind a camera, he soon realized that a history degree could only hold his interest for so long.

Following a year working as the photo and graphics editor for the University of Guelph's newspaper the Ontarion, an internship with Canadian Geographic Magazine in Ottawa, and then an internship with The StarPhoenix in Saskatoon, he moved back to Toronto to begin freelancing full time for clients across Canada and internationally.

James has been based between South East Asia, Toronto, and the West Coast of Canada since 2013 working with some unbelievably fantastic people, clients, and publications; and has been lucky enough to be making pictures and telling stories for over a decade.

He is currently based in Victoria BC on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, which is part of the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Lekwungen) peoples. James acknowledges and thanks the Lkwungen People, also known as the Songhees and  Esquimalt First Nations, for allowing him and his family to live, work, and play on their lands.

James is available for photo and video work locally, across Canada, and internationally.

Beginning in Spring 2024, photo tours around Victoria, BC and the South Island will be organized and led by James over at vancouver-island-visuals.format.com
